Recovering the lost self, healing from trauma and finding wellness

Recovery of Self is a source for information, connection and assistance for individuals, communities, employers, helpers, organizations and systems, who are impacted by the epidemic of domestic violence and the trauma in which it results.

Domestic violence is insidious – though often in hiding --sometimes behind silence or shame, behind closed doors, due to a lack of awareness, or even as a result of threats of harm that keep victims quiet and entrapped. We can collude or be part of the change desperately needed to break the cycle that takes so many people out, mostly women and children.

Intimate partner violence, or domestic violence, is about coercive control and entrapment. The purpose of coercive control is to break down the personality, cause people to feel and think things they wouldn’t normally. These are the same tactics used in concentration camps, with prisoners of war, in religious cults and human trafficking. The result is a lost sense of self. A person is no longer safe to operate off of their true self. This is severe trauma.

In the quest to live our best, most authentic lives, trauma rocks our foundation. It gets us to question everything about ourselves and those we love. And it also can transform us with the right conditions. Contact me for more information on training and consultation available on the foundations of healing from trauma, domestic violence, vicarious trauma, self-care, how to create the conditions where survivors can heal.
